Abstract:In the process of economic globalization, foreign direct investment plays an increasingly important role. Since the reform and opening up, the FDI inflows to China has developed rapidly. As the economic contribution of FDI has been more and more recognized, the impact of FDI on environment is also arousing a lot of concern. After recalling from the research at home and abroad, the paper selected Shenzhen as the object. The paper focuses on the environment effect of FDI through a combination of theoretical and empirical method.

Shenzhen, the first special economic zone of China, has become one of the cities with the most concentrated and fastest FDI inflows in Chinese mainland. Does the foreign direct investment improve Shenzhen’s environment or deteriorate it? This question caused the writer’s thinking.

In this paper, on the basis of the establishment of the regression model, use empirical method. As a result, the inflow of FDI to Shenzhen has negative impact on environment quality. The quantity of industrial waste goes up along with the increase of the inflow of FDI in Shenzhen. Meanwhile, the economic growth of Shenzhen is also an important factor affecting the environment quality. Based on the above analysis, the paper puts forward some corresponding countermeasures to meet the requirements of sustainable development.
