ABSTRACT:As a major research topic in the field of cross-cultural studies, the study of culture and translation has excited great interests in the present context of unavoidable globalization. It is unavoidable that great differences have existed in two different kinds of cultural backgrounds between English and Chinese. Therefore, to discuss cultural differences of language becomes a very important task and it is essential to analyze and compare the cultural connotation of words.
The present study aims to analyze cultural connotation of color words, and to identify the factors influenced by cultural difference. This article uses the literature methodology to show the different cultural connotations of color words by a good many examples and puts forward solutions of translation with the cultural difference.
Through the analysis, it is found that translation of color word has close relationship with culture and what cause the cultural difference is the folkways and customs, sociality, religion, thinking pattern and so on. To translate these words with cultural difference, it is possible to use the literal translation, free translation and the literal translation with notes.
It is hoped that the present study will provide a better understanding of the concept of color words for English learners, avoiding hindering cross-culture due to cultural differences.

摘要:作为跨文化研究领域的主要课题之一，有关文化与翻译的研究在当前不可避免的全球一体化发展趋势下受到广泛的关注。在两种不同的文化背景之中的英汉两种语言之间不可避免地存在着巨大的差异。因此，探讨语言的文化差异是一个十分重要的课题，必须分析和比较词语所蕴涵的文化内涵。
本文对各种颜色词的文化内涵进行了分析，并且找出影响文化差异的因素。本文利用文献研究法列举了大量的例子来说明颜色词具有的不同文化内涵，并提出了解决因文化差异带来的翻译困难的方法。
通过分析发现，颜色词的翻译与文化有着密切的关系，造成文化差异的因素有民俗习惯，社会属性，宗教信仰，思维方式等等；解决这种文化差异的翻译可以采用直译，意译和直译加注释的办法。
希望本文的研究结果能让英语学习者更好地掌握颜色词的概念，从而避免因文化差异带来跨文化交际的障碍。

Color word’s cultural connotations and translation are what this dissertation study about. In this dissertation, these two subjects are connected and their relations are discussed and analyzed. The dissertation structure outlined shows that difference between Chinese and English color words, then analyzes some cultural connotations of color words. After that, the study turns to discuss the solution of how to translate the color words.
It is valuable to study translation of color words from the perspective of cultural connotations because all kinds of factors involved in translation process such as social conventions and religion are in connection with culture closely. This article provides a better understanding of the concept of color words for English learners, avoiding hindering cross-culture due to cultural differences. It is hoped that this article will be helpful for English learners and writers.
