Abstract: Amy Tan is the famous American writer of Chinese descent. She is good at describing the emotional dispute between mothers and daughters. Most of the characters in her works are Chinese women born in the United States. Amy’s literary productions are based on her personal experiences, such as The Joy Luck Club. In her deep thought, there are two different cultures—traditional Chinese culture and American mainstream culture, where the two different cultures are conflicting and integrating.
The paper firstly introduces Amy Tan and her work, and makes an analysis of the theme and characters of The Joy Luck Club. Then it mainly studies the differences between Chinese and western culture in The Joy Luck Club, which reflect in three aspects: high-context and low-context, collectivism and individualism, hierarchy and egalitarianism. In the end, the paper expounds the causes of conflict with the cross-cultural communication theory, and makes a conclusion that the two cultures will finally integrate.

摘要：谭恩美是一位受人瞩目的华裔女作家。她擅长描写母女之间的感情纠葛, 以在外国出生的华裔女性为主角，以切身的体会创作了《喜福会》小说。在她的创作深处，汇聚了中国传统文化和美国主流文化的冲突与融合。
论文首先介绍谭恩美和她的作品《喜福会》，并分析它的主题以及介绍主要人物，然后分析了《喜福会》中主要的中西方文化差异，主要体现在三个方面的差异：低语境和高语境，个人主义和集体主义，平等主义和等级制度，最后结合跨文化交际理论阐述了产生冲突的原因，以及两种文化最终走向理解和融合的必然性。
