Abstract: By comparing Becky in Thackeray’s Vanity Fair and Carrie in Dreiser’s Sister Carrie, analyzing the similarities and differences of the two images, this paper aims to find out the deep reasons for the two heroines’ different ends. They seemingly have similar destiny but come to different ends. They are birth at the poor bottom of the society, and they both attempt to fulfill their material desire with unscrupulous divisive tactics. However, they finally have different endings due to their different characters.

摘要：本文通过对比研究萨克雷《名利场》中的蓓基和德莱赛《嘉莉妹妹》中的嘉丽两位女主角，分析人物的形象异同，试图找出看似拥有相同命运的两位女主角最终却拥有不同结局的深层原因——她们同是出生在贫穷的社会底层，为了物质私欲而不择手段、败坏道德，但最终因为不同的性格而有不同的结局。
