Abstract: Edgar Allan Poe (1809 ~ 1849) was an American poet and novelist in 19th century. His works are unique in any era. The Edgar Allan Poe's Gothic stories have a unique style and they inherit the traditional gothic literature creation commonly. The unique technique with clever collocation shows the author's unique temperament. Through the understanding of Edgar Allan Poe's life experience and his age background, and the analysis of his Gothic writing style and its creative reasons, this thesis tends to analyze the artistic features of the Edgar Allan Poe’s novel: “the choice of the exaggerated Gothic theme”, “the successful shaping of the Gothic characters”, and “the clever building of Gothic setting”.

摘要: 埃德加·爱伦·坡（1809～1849），十九世纪美国诗人、小说家,其作品在任何时代都是独一无二的作品。尤其是他的哥特小说，它们继承了传统哥特式文学的一般创作手法，对这些一般创作手法巧妙搭配，予以细化和深化，赋予了作者的独特气质。通过对爱伦·坡生平以及其所处年代背景与历史氛围的了解，从他所处的时代背景分析他的哥特式风格,本文将对其哥特小说的艺术特色进行分析，其中包括“哥特式”罕见题材的夸张选择，“哥特式”典型人物的成功塑造，以及“哥特式”恐怖氛围的巧妙营造。
