Abstract：The Catcher in the Rye is recognized as one of the “modern classic”in American literature. It’s a symbolic novel in which the objects and colors are symbolized greatly. This paper attempts to analyze the symbolic meanings of objects like “the rye, the duck, and the hunting hat” and the symbolic meanings of colors like “red, blue and grey”. In the novel, the hero Holden hates the phoniness of the adult world and craves for the innocence and simplicity of childhood. These images are widely used to represent Holden’s world .Through the analysis of the symbolic meanings of these images; readers can have a better understanding of the theme and soul of the novel.

摘要：《麦田里的守望者》是公认的美国文学“现代经典”之一，小说中使用了很多象征手法，如事物的象征和颜色的象征。本文分析了小说中的事物像麦田、鸭子、鸭舌帽的象征寓意以及红色、蓝色、灰色的象征寓意。在《麦田里的守望者》中主人公霍尔顿厌恶成人世界的虚伪，渴望儿童般的天真与单纯。这些象征意象描绘了霍尔顿的世界。通过对这些象征意象的分析，读者能够更好的理解小说的主旨与精神。
