Abstract:In translation, the translators always pay serious attention to the translation of personal names and localities. Amateurs, however, consider this only a simple job. Actually, they don’t realize the importance and the complication of the business. It is really difficult and sophisticated for a translator to translate each personal name and locality correctly and exactly, for there are too many personal names and localities in the world. Moreover, for an English learner or a middle school English teacher, it is an essential ability to translate English personal names and localities, in order to learn more and know more about different cultures, histories and customs of different countries. In this thesis, some translation theories, principles, methods and examples will be mentioned and discussed.

摘要:在翻译界，翻译工作者，对人名、地名的翻译是很重视的。然而，一般的翻译工作者总认为，人名、地名的翻译是件简单的事。其实，他们并不懂得这项工作的重要性和复杂性。对于普通译者来说，要把每一个人名或地名译得准确无误实为难事，因为世界上有如此之多的人名和地名。再者，对于一名英语学习者或是一名中学英语教师来说，具备英语人名地名的翻译技能是非常必要的，这样以便于他们了解和掌握更多不同国家的不同文化，历史，习俗等。这篇文章，将会涉及到有关人名及地名翻译的理论，原则，方法和实例等。
