Abstract: The paper was undertaken to study main principles and methods on the translation of Chinese-English idioms, analyzing and comparing their cultural implication and connotations. Based on the discussion, it is suggested that we should insist on the translation principle of domestication supplemented by foreignization and follow such methods as literal translation, literal translation with notes, free translation, and image transference. Also such problems should be avoided as translation without understanding, applying mechanically in disregard of specific conditions and lacking comprehensive consideration.

摘要:本文通过对比汉英动物习语的文化信息及其内涵寓意，探讨汉英动物习语的翻译应坚持归化为主，异化为辅的原则，在翻译过程中采用直译、直译加注解、意译、模拟转译等翻译方法以及翻译时要注意避免望文生义、生搬硬套、顾此失彼等问题。
