Abstract: Henry James is one of the greatest novelists and literary theoreticians who enjoys great reputation in the English literary world and is often referred to as the pioneer of modern English novels. In most of his novels, he dealt with the “international theme”, the transatlantic intercourse between American and European society and culture. Taking Daisy Miller as an example, this thesis concentrates on the cultural conflicts between the new and old continents reflected in this work, that is, American innocence and European sophistication.

摘要：亨利·詹姆斯是一位杰出的小说家和文艺理论家。他享誉英语文学世界，被称为英国现代主义小说的先驱。他的小说中最常反映的是“国际主题”，即欧美文化之间的关系。本文以《黛西·米勒》为例，主要探讨了作品中所反映的新旧大陆的文化冲突，也就是美国人的无知单纯和欧洲人的恪守陈规﹑老于世故之间的对峙。
