ABSTRACT:Autonomous learning is a hot topic in the educational circles in recent years. This paper aims to study the development of autonomous English learning ability of high school students. Based on the theoretical research and the method of questionnaire, this paper puts forward relevant suggestions. By analyzing the connotation of autonomous learning, influencing factors, several effective learning strategies, and the current situation of high school students’ English autonomous learning ability, it comes to the conclusion that learning strategies do play a vital role in improving high school students’ autonomous English learning ability, and that high school students can improve English autonomous learning ability well through the study of learning strategies.
