Abstract:For Chinese translation studies, aesthetics has a very special significance to translation theory. The combination of translation and aesthetics is one of the important characteristics of Chinese translation theory. In view of Chinese language, the function of language is inseparable from aesthetic judgment. Poetry translation is very difficult, especially, the acceptation and rejection between beauty in sound, form and meaning. And poetry translation has a very high artistic value of its own.
This paper focuses on the aesthetic thoughts contained in poetry translation from Chinese to English. On the basis of the achievements made by the previous scholars, it analyzes the aesthetics in poetry translation deeply, which is based on the guidance of Xu Yuanchong’s “Three Beauty Theory”. The thesis consists of five parts which is to introduce the aesthetics in Chinese to English poetry translation. The first part introduces the background of the aesthetics, then express the significance and the purpose of this research; The second part introduces the research on aesthetics at home and abroad, its level and development trend. The third part starts from Xu Yuanchong’s “Three Beauty Theory” and chooses several points in Fang Mengzhi’s “Dictionary of Translation Studies”and Liu Miqin’s “An Introduction to Translation Aesthetics” to introduce the combination of aesthetics and translation, and then highlights ; The fourth part lists several examples with the guidance of Xu Yuanchong’s “Three Beauty Theory” and analyzes the aesthetics in poetry translation. At the same time, the thesis will list some foreign translation examples and make comparison. Finally, the conclusion includes a summary of the thesis and suggestions for further research. Moreover, it is hoped that this thesis can help more people get to know the aesthetics in ancient Chinese poetry.
