Abstract:With the rapid growth of global economy and increasing strengthening of international cooperation, tourism has played a more and more important role in economic and cultural exchanges. China has rich tourism resources and Chinese tourism industry has been thriving and attached great importance since the reform and the opening-up policy. However, tourism translation is still in exploration due to various reasons. The thesis first briefly introduces the research of functional equivalence theory, makes an overall description of the linguistic characteristics of tourism English. Then, taking scenic spots of Yangzhou for instance, the thesis aims to apply functional equivalence theory in tourism translation and demonstrates the feasibility of applying this theory as a theoretical guidance from the layers of lexicon, syntax and rhetorical devices. Besides, the paper also provides five strategies of tourism translation: literal translation, paraphrase, deletion, addition and transliteration.
