Abstract:With the development of society, the connotation and extension of English taboos keep changing all the time. They are the production, as well as the need of development of society. This paper focuses on discussing the development of British and American culture, studying the appearance and development of English taboos according to the changes of social characteristics in specific historical backgrounds; by analyzing some examples, it explores how social concepts, politics, changes of daily life and religion lead to the continuity, change or disappearance of English taboos with the passage of time.
