Abstract
The world is brought to a more increasingly close one under the circumstance of globalization. The international connections are tending to be more and more frequent, so are the cultural interactions among countries. In this process, the translation of literature works can’t be ignored and the translators are using different translation strategies and methods in his producing. This thesis presents the translation strategies----Domestication and Foreignization and briefly introduces Sun’s Chinese version of The Catcher in the Rye. Previous documents attach more importance to one strategy. So this thesis analyzes the Domestication and Foreignization strategies applied in Sun’s Chinese version of The Catcher in the Rye authored by J.D. salinger from three perspectives: word level, discourse level, and culture level. The findings show that the misuse of translation strategies can exert terrible impacts on literature translation. Different strategies used in translation should comply with the real situation: the context, the target readers, the identity of the translator, and the purpose for the translation and etc, instead of one simple translation strategy.
