Abstract
With the expansion of globalization, cultural communication and information exchange become increasingly important. News is a forceful channel to promote information exchange and communication among different countries. More and more metaphorical idioms applied into the news report increase the vividness, accuracy and readability of the news and attract more and more readers. This paper applies the Eco-translatology theory into the exploration of metaphorical idioms translation in China Daily. It discusses translators’ adaptation to the translational eco-environment and their adaptive selection on the translation methods. Based on Eco-translatology, this paper analyzes translators’ adaptive selection in the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions and concludes that different translation methods, such as literal translation, literal translation with explanation, free translation, amplification and borrowing translation, are selected by translators in the translation of metaphorical idioms in China Daily according to their linguistic forms and images.
