Abstract: The culture of all nations in the world has both commonality and individuality, which inevitably leads to the phenomenon of lexical vacancy in language. It levels up the difficulty in the practical translation. Therefore, it is of great significance to study and solve the problem of lexical gap for enriching the national culture, promoting the cultural exchange between different nations and eliminating the communication obstacle. Besides it also helps to improve the effect of translation, to strengthen the role of translation in cross-cultural communication, to expand the field of translation studies, and to promote the integrity of translation theory. This paper analyzes the theoretical origin, basic theory and main features of lexical vacancy phenomenon, emphatically analyzes the translation strategies of All Men Are Brothers translated by Pearl S. Buck and tries to figure out how she dealt with the lexical gap and how she achieves equivalent translation in her side. And then this paper discusses the practicability and rationality of specific translation strategies in practice, and tries to provide reference and experience for the translation of lexical gap in Chinese classics.
