Abstract:With the rapid development of the economic globalization, the connection among countries becomes closer and closer. English, as official language, is adopted by many countries as an important teaching subject. In China, English is learned as an important second language which is not only reflected in the share of English learning in every learning period, but also reflects a rush to learn English in China. However, the English teaching in China have many issues because of the disadvantages of the Chinese examination-oriented education system. At the beginning of learning English, students used to put grammar in the first place but neglect the phonetic learning. It will make students be weak in the speaking competence and lead the communicative function losing of the English learning. The final aim for English learning is to have conversations and communicate with others, without communicative function, English learning will be insignificance. Phonetics is a subject for pronunciation features which should be an antecedent part in English teaching. However, in most of the middle schools in China, phonetics always be neglected easily. This thesis is discussing the phonetic teaching in China, according to the experience of practicing teaching in Chengdu Shishi Jincheng Foreign Language School, aiming at its problems in phonetic teaching, discussing the influence factors and the solutions.
