Abstract:With the deepening of Sino-foreign cultural exchanges, more and more foreign films swarm into the Chinese market, the subtitle translation has become a new field. In view of the problems of the subtitle translation, for example: translating deviation due to translator’s misunderstanding of the culture or the plot; stiff translation or translation does not match the plot caused by translator’s overusing the literal translation, this paper make Transformers: Age of Extinction as an example to have a discussion about the role which functional equivalence play of guiding subtitle translating, pointing out that subtitle translation should focus on receptor response and the essence of the translation is to reproduce the source text with the closest natural equivalence in target language.
