Abstract
This thesis is based on the studies of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China and planty of theories about omission.
Xi Jinping: The Governance of China introduces the newest development in China’s politics, economics and other fields with a brand-new perspective, the English version of which opens a window for the international community and works as a response to its concern. On account of the differences in lexicon, syntax, linguistic expression and the way of thinking, translation from Chinese into English is bound to encounter enormous difficulties. Omission, however, is very common and useful in Chinese-English translation. On the basis of comprehending the spirit of the original text, translators can exploit this vital technique in a bid to make the target text more exact, more refined and smoother. All in all, omission is to omit some words which are not translated in targeted text, or to delete those dispensable words while keep their original meanings. This article is intended to analyze omission in the English translation of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China and provide some practical suggestions for translation of such kind of political documents.
