Abstract
Li Bai, a great romantic poet of the Tang Dynasty, was later reputed to be the "poetic genius." He created the ancient Romantic literature in which the descendants can not easily reach the height of his Song-form and seven-word poems. Qiang Jin Jou is an ancient poem that Li Bai created in the way of archaic ancient poetry. Li Bai expressed his frustration on his unrecognized talent, while also transmitted his optimistic and considerate feelings. The poet used an abundant of figures of speech in this poem, especially metaphor, hyperbole, and parallelism. In addition, the poetry also revealed the negative theme of “Carpe diem”. This thesis compares five versions of the poem Qiang Jin Jiu on their figures of speech and evaluated them. This thesis chooses three distinctive rhetorical features to compare and analyze different methods of translating these rhetorical features (metaphor, parallelism and exaggeration) in different versions, and summarizes the translation methods and strategies that need to be paid attention to in translating this kind of poems.
