ABSTRACT

Each year, many government press conferences (GPC) are held during the sessions of NPC and CPPCC, among which, the premier’s GPC matters most because it serves as an international political arena where the Chinese Premier will answer all the questions proposed by journalists from all over the world. Differing from other GPCs, the premier’s GPC is a political confrontation in reality. Besides, during the conference, our premiers always quote numerous historical or literal events, poetry, proverbs, idioms and etc in their answers. And the direct result is that culture-loaded expressions (CLE) with Chinese characteristics occur frequently, which is a huge challenge to the interpreter. After a research of the nature of the C-E interpretation of GPC, the writer discovers the spirit of C-E interpretation and the core of Nida’s functional equivalence theory are inter-merged. Hence the writer aims to carry out the study and hunt for strategies for the interpretation of CLEs in C-E interpretation of Premier Li Keqiang’ s GPC of 2016 from the perspective of functional equivalence.
