Based on the above analysis, the study shows there exists high anxiety, low esteem, and empathy among the students during their English learning. In a word, affective problems exist among the middle school students, which makes their English learning efficiency rather poor. Without improving measures, the inefficient and unsatisfactory situation will remain and even turn worse. Most of teachers pay more attention to helping the students meet the requirements of the syllabus and ensuring students’ passing Entrance Examination for High School. They seldom interact with students and try to understand their emotional needs. With these negative affects, students are more afraid of participating in the class. The findings in this study suggest a number of implications for English teaching. It is advisable for English teachers to attach more attention to students’ affective attitudes, such as motivation, self-esteem, which can greatly promote students’ learning. Only when teachers have a full understanding of students’ affects, can they create more ideal teaching environment and help students develop more positive attitudes.
