ABSTRACT:The movie Hoodwinked! Little Red Riding Hood was released in 2005. Comparing the roles of the Wolf in this movie with the Wolf in the original Little Red Riding Hood in Grimm’s Fairy Tales, there are changes mainly in three apects: quality, language and ending. Through the analysis of these changes, the success of the new version can be traced back to its distinctive features. By adding some postmodern elements, on one hand, this movie subverts the characters in the original fairy tale, bringing a brand new feeling to the audience; on the other hand, it is anti-traditional in the plots and endings, which is more interesting. These changes in the new version have both positive and negative influences on children. Analyzing these changes can help us understand better the influences of postmodernism on children today.
Key words: Little Red Riding Hood; Wolf; subversiveness; anti-tradition; postmodernism

There are many differences between the old version and new version of Little Red Riding Hood in plots, narrations, characters’ qualities and endings. The most remarkable difference is the role--Wolf, it is totally reversed from an evil role to be an impressive hero.
Camparing Wolf’s differences, there are three parts of distinction. First, the Wolf’s quality. It can be simple to summarize the quality as bad to be good. Second, the Wolf’s language. Wolf’s dialogues become humorous, vivid and playful. Third, the Wolf’s ending. Wolf’s original ending is a tragedy in the Wolf’s part, but it becomes a famous hero in the new version. From the above analysis, the reasons of them are:
Firstly, the new version Hoodwinked! Little Red Riding Hood is a postmodern movie. It has the features of rejecting boundaries between high and low forms of art, rejecting rigid genre distinctions, emphasizing pastiche, parody, bricolage, irony, and playfulness.
Secondly, the subversiveness and the change of the characters’ qualities are the influences of postmodernism. Subversiveness makes the characters’ qualities diversified and fragmentation that makes the movie more realistic to life.
Thirdly, the anti-tradition and the change of the plots and endings are also due to the influences of postmodernism. It rejects the traditonal fixed model on the plots and the ending, disordering the narrative sequence.
These different versions of the story have both positive and negative influences on children. The postive influences are that the changes of characters’ qualities in the new version will be diversification to shock children’s traditional mind, forming a new system of images in their brain. And children accept the new concept quickly when they see the new version movie and form a new emotional bonds in their mind. What’s more, the plots are playful that they can meet children’s needs of psychological entertainment. But these features also have negative influences on children that they will break the original spirits from the fairy tales, so that children can't learn the precious traditional spirits from new version. And the modern elements emerging in the movie will destroy children’s impression of the wood.
