Abstract:In recent years, foreign languages are gradually melting into Chinese network context. This phenomenon has attracted attentions of a large number of scholars from many fields. Their views on this subject differ greatly mainly because their understanding of nature, characteristics and the expressive way of net-speak is totally different. Firstly, Net-speak are different from official publications. They can be used casually without the restrictions of the official languages. Secondly, the younger generation in China has generally received an English education for a long time. Their reception of American and British culture, understanding and the verbal skills are better than their parents in Chinese-English bilingual environment. Thirdly, Net-speak the younger netizens used have novelty, academically alone-creativity and exclusivity. Therefore, this paper focuses on the applications of English in a Chinese network context. Also this paper selects a group of newly-created English words created by netizens in China. These new words have an extrinsic feature of English, but if you want to understand the intrinsic meaning of them, you should judge by a specific Chinese network context. Thus, such kind of net-speak combined with Chinese and English has exclusivity to a certain extent. It causes some difficulties to understandings for the members outside the particular speech community. Through studying the characteristics of its composition and social and cultural background behind it, this paper aims to deepen awareness and understanding of the net-speak.
