Abstract: Color words are frequently used and endowed with plentiful emotion and cultural connotations. When communicating with others, we should pay attention to not only color word’s basic meaning but also its deeper symbolic meaning. This paper studies on cultural connotations of color words in both Chinese and English, it analyses color words associated with social status, politic events, economy, traditions and emotions. The author hopes to help readers learn some differences of color words in different languages, and avoid embarrassment and confusion in communication.

摘要：在人类语言里颜色词经常用到，并且被赋予不同的情感和文化内涵。我们
与他人交流时，不仅要注意颜色词的基本含义还要注意他们深层含义。本文研究汉英颜色词的文化内涵，分析了颜色词与社会地位，政治事件，经济，传统和情感的关联。作者希望这篇论文能帮助读者了解不同语言中的颜色词内涵的不同，从而在交流中避免尴尬与困扰。
