Abstract: Carrie Sister is a famous novel written by Theodore Dreiser. It is also his first novel. In the history of American literature, the image of Carrie has always been a focus of controversy. This paper focuses on the process of Carrie’s growth. Through the analysis of how Carrie moulded her image, controlled her fate and realized her dreams on the basis of the theory of feminism and Maslow’s Human Motivation, the paper concludes that Carrie was a successful representative of New Woman at that time with her change from a country girl to a popular actress step by step.

摘要: 《嘉莉妹妹》是西奥多·德莱塞的第一部著作。在美国文学史上，嘉莉妹妹一直是一个有争议的人物形象。本文旨在关注嘉莉妹妹的成长历程，结合女性主义理论和马斯洛的动机原理，通过分析嘉莉妹妹如何实现在形象方面的自我塑造，如何掌控自我命运以及如何实现梦想，揭示嘉莉妹妹如何一步步地从一个乡村女孩转变为一个受欢迎的演员，从而成为当时社会中新女性的代表。
