ABSTRACT:Milan Kundera’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a classic masterpiece．There are various discussions and debates about this novel; especially the dialectical relationship between “lightness and weight”. This paper focuses on analyzing the source of heaviness from the two heroines’ perspectives, their living environment, their values about life and love, etc. At the same time, people also have to endure another inescapable tragedy that people will never achieve integrity and unity of themselves, just as Sabina and Tereza had never found their “ideal self” in mirror. Although this paper is based on the discussion of characters, their helplessness and passiveness in a particular nation and history background also confuse modern people. Through analyzing the growing-up, love and living experience of Sabina and Tereza in The Unbearable Lightness of Being, the thesis can reflect the dialectical theme of this novel about “weight” and “lightness” and drop the modern people into making a self-examination about “the meaning of existence”.

摘 要:米兰.昆德拉的《不能承受的生命之轻》是一本经典名著，有关于这本书的讨论和争议各种各样，特别是对于书中“轻与重”的辩证关系，更是引得众人反思。本篇论文从书中两位女主人公萨宾娜和特蕾莎的角度入手，从她们生活的环境、人生价值观、爱情观等方面，全面分析，从而剖析“沉重”之来源。与此同时，人还必须承受另一不可逃避的悲剧，那就是人永远不能得到自我的完整统一，正如萨宾娜和特蕾莎一直热衷于在镜中寻找“理想自我”而最终却不得实现一样。本篇论文虽然立足于小说人物的讨论，但她们在特定的民族历史和时代背景下的无奈和被动却也往往是现代人共同面临的困惑。通过分析《不能承受的生命之轻》中两位女主人公萨宾娜和特蕾莎的成长、爱情和生活经历，以此反映小说主题“轻与重”的辩证关系，给予当代人对于“存在”意义的深刻反省。
