Abstract: Moby-Dick is the representative work of Herman Melville and is considered to be one of the most symbolic novels in world literature. This paper focuses on the analysis of the symbolisms in it and the philosophical of the author reflection in Moby-Dick. It is made up of five chapters: Chapter one is a brief introduction of my paper. Chapter two consists of a general introduction to Melville’s life and the main content of the book Moby-Dick. Chapter three is focused on the symbolism in Moby-Dick. Chapter four discuss about Herman Melville’s philosophy of life reflected by symbols in Moby-Dick. Chapter five is the conclusion. Symbols in literature are usually objects used to represent or suggest important concepts that inform and appreciation of the work. Moby-Dick offers some of the most widely known symbols in American literature. This paper is aimed to analyze and appreciate the symbolisms in Moby-Dick more completely hoping the readers could have a more understanding of the book.

摘要:《白鲸》是美国作家赫尔曼•麦尔维尔的代表作,被认为是世界上最有象征意义的小说之一。本文集中分析《白鲸》中的象征主题以及作者的哲学思想在小说中的反映。第一章是对本文的简单介绍。第二章简要介绍作者的生平跟《白鲸》一书的内容梗概。第三章是对白鲸象征主题的分析。第四章主要讲的是麦尔维尔的思想在《白鲸》中的反映。第五章是对本文的简要总结。在文学作品中,象征通常是用来表述或提议一些重要的观点的。 在美国文学里,《白鲸》是众所周知的象征作品。本文的目的就是通过欣赏和分析《白鲸》中的象征主题,从而让读者能够更理解这本书。
