Abstract: F. Scott Fitzgerald is a famous American novelist, short story writer, and scenarist. He is often considered as the spokesman and history chronicler of the Jazz Age, and his masterpiece Tender Is the Night is generally accepted as a masterpiece of the “Lost Generation”, a term coined by Gertrude Stein to refer to a group of American literary notables who lived in Paris from the time period which saw the beginning of the Great Depression. This paper aims to analyze Dick’s traits of “the lost generation” in Tender is the Night from three parts: Dick’s mentality, Dick’s search for upper class identity and Dick’s tragic ending. Also, the reasons for Dick’s tragic ending are going to be analyzed.

摘要:菲兹杰拉德是美国著名小说家,短篇家,和剧作家。他被称为“爵士时代”的代言人和编纂者。他的著作《夜色温柔》是具有“迷惘的一代”特点的巨作。所谓“迷惘的一代”是指20世纪二、三十年代流亡生活在法国的一群绝望的美国文学家,他们目睹了经济大萧条的开始和战争对人类的伤害。本文旨在分析《夜色温柔》中的主人公迪克的“迷惘的一代”的人物特性在三个方面的体现:迪克的心理,上流社会身份的认定,以及其他悲剧的结局。与此同时,论文也将探讨其悲剧结局的成因。
