Abstract：Euphemism is a common phenomenon of language in human society. It aids to achieve successful social interchange and co-ordinate human rapport. English euphemism, as one of the most widely used euphemisms in the world today, exists extensively in every class and every field of the society. The diplomatic language, as a vehicle of diplomatic work, it has unique characteristics which are different from other languages, and its typical characteristic is the stress of tactics and politeness. As a tactic and communicative technique, proper using of euphemism can meet the special needs of social intercourse, and accomplish the diplomatic task. Diplomatic euphemism is an essential communicative art of diplomatists. This paper begins with the definition and function of euphemism, expounding the effect and application tactics of English euphemism on diplomatic occasions.

摘要：委婉语是人类社会普遍存在的一种语言现象,它可以帮助获得成功的交流，维护和谐的人际关系。英语委婉语作为当今世界应用最广泛的委婉语之一，广泛存在于社会各个阶层和各个领域中。外交语言作为外交工作的载体,有其不同于一般语言的独特之处,其显著特征就是讲究策略和礼貌。作为外交语言的一种策略和语言技巧, 恰当地运用委婉语言可以满足特殊的社交需要, 完成交际任务。外交委婉语是外交人员不可或缺的交际艺术。文章从委婉语的定义、功能入手，阐述了英语委婉语在外交场合的作用及应用策略。
