ABSTRACT:Diet plays an important role in the life of mankind. Because of the differences of historical and geographical conditions in China and Western countries, there formed different food cultures in two civilizations. The Chinese and western food cultures are different in concept, target, pattern, attribution and nature and so on. This thesis analyzes the six different dining concepts between Chinese and Western food cultures and cultural analysis of these differences. These six different dining concepts are different values for food choices, different food forms for meals, different sense of time for meals, different dressing forms for meals, different atmosphere for meals, and different ways of paying for meals. The purpose of this thesis is to avoid misunderstanding produced by different cultures by understanding the differences of food culture between China and Western countries, and to improve intercultural communication competence of English learners.

摘要:饮食在人类生活中占有举足轻重的地位。由于中西方历史和地理等条件的不同,因此形成了两种不同的饮食文化。中西饮食文化的差异表现在观念、目标、结构、归因、性质等方面。本文就中西饮食文化的六种不同的就餐观念及其形成这些差异的文化因素展开了分析。这六种不同的就餐观念分别是不同的食物选择价值观、不同的就餐食物形式、不同的就餐时间观、不同的就餐着装形式、不同的就餐氛围和不同的就餐支付方式。论文的目的是通过对中西饮食文化差异的了解来避免不同文化间产生的误解,从而提高英语学习者的跨文化交际能力。
