ABSTRACT:Numbers are the huge treasures of culture. Number exists in every language. Number in different countries reflects different tradition and characteristics of national culture. Number translation is a complex process, and it involves not only language itself but also the culture connotation behind numbers. Translators should understand the culture both of China and foreign countries. The task of number translation is to deepen the understanding of culture behind numbers and find a suitable way to translate numbers correctly through combining the context. First of all, this article presents the culture connotation of number in Chinese, and then compares it with the culture connotation of number in some English-speaking countries, finds a correct way to translate numbers according to the different culture connotations behind numbers. The methods of number translation are “Literal Translation”, “Literal Translation Added Note” and “Free Translation”. Translators should understand the culture connotation of number in each language. Combining numbers with context and translating numbers correctly are very important. Only in this way can we deepen the understanding of number and realize the purpose of cultural exchange.

摘要:数字是文化的一笔巨大财富，数字存在于各种语言之中。数字在不同的国家体现了不同民族文化的传统与特征。翻译数字是一个复杂的过程，数字的翻译不仅涉及到语言的问题，而且还涉及到数字背后的文化内涵。译者必须在翻译数字之前做到充分了解国内外的文化。翻译数字的目的在于加深对数字背后文化内涵的了解，并能够结合语境找到适当的翻译方法，把数字正确地翻译过来。本文首先提出中国一些数字的文化内涵，再与一些英语国家的数字文化做一定的比较，最后通过不同数字文化内涵来选择正确的翻译方法，即直译、直译加注、意译。译者只有清楚地理解了各语言中的数字文化并结合语境用正确的方法加以翻译，才能深化数字的文化内涵，实现文化交流的目的。
