Abstract: Pragmatics and literature are closely related. It is a powerful tool to study the characteristics of literary language. English novelist Jane Austen is good at describing character dialogues. In Pride and Prejudice, she cleverly created the atmosphere through dialogues, highlighted the theme and promoted the development of the plots. Her characters’ dialogues often violate the principle of pragmatics, such dialogue session meaning arising from the arrangements is full of dramatic tension. In this way, dialogues can vividly show the character’s personality, emotions and conflicts, and this is the primary means to produce humorous effect. With language analysis of the novel Pride and Prejudice meaning theoretical learning sessions can be more clear perspective the relationship between language forms and characters, revealing distinctive fictional character, communicative intentions and social relationships, while helping to improve readers of literary appreciation.
