Abstract: As a major in English, learning the literature of these English speaking countries is of great importance. It can make us know their culture and customs so that we can approach to the development of English and prevent or reduce the culture shock during our study of English. Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights are absolutely the masterpiece of English literature. Their description of women brought the female readers some new concept of women and encouraged them to make a few changes in their time. The spirit of resistance is one of the important themes in Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. Therefore, I think it is necessary for me to study spirit of resistance in these two novels. The leading characters in these two novels are the rebels of their time. They both share the spirit of resistance. However, their endings were very different. So I decide to choose the subject of comparative analysis of the spirit of resistance between Jane Eyre and Catherine in order to find the reasons that led to their separate lives. Jane Eyre and Catherine are the pioneer in their age. However, there are still some limitations in their spirit of resistance.
