ABSTRACT:The paper attempts to analyze Sara’s Character under Adversity in A Little Princess written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Burnett tells a story about the heroine Sara who suffered such unimaginable pain and tortures, but still had an optimistic attitude towards life. Her charming character: self-assurance, wisdom through self-imagination, compassion for others helps her break through all the difficulties create a new life, yet it plays an irreplaceable role in the whole story. Therefore the research on Sara’s character under adversity counts for much. This paper will be divided into three parts to emphasize and summarize the characters of Sara. The first part will introduce the basic information about author Frances Hodgson Burnett and her writing style. The second part, through a series of changes from Sara's social status, economic conditions and relationship with others, will analyze her way of dealing with adverse changes in her life. And then to reveal the character of Sara under adversity: self-assurance, wisdom through self-imagination, compassion for others. The third part will summarize these characters of Sara’s under adversity and make a general conclusion.

摘要:本论文主要关注并分析弗朗西斯·霍奇森·伯内特的小说《小公主》中主人公萨拉在逆境下所表现出来的品格。伯内特在这部小说中描述了小主人公萨拉所遭遇的重重逆境，但是她却依旧恭谦有礼，不卑不亢的积极面对生活。而萨拉在逆境面前所表现出的自我信念，生存智慧和善待他人三种品格对她战胜困难开创新生活起着至关重要的作用，所以对萨拉品格的研究有重要意义。本论文课题的目的在于揭示萨拉在逆境中所表现出的自我信念，生存智慧和善待他人三种品格。论文将主要分为三个部分，第一部分主要描述作者弗朗西斯·霍奇森·伯内特的基本情况和写作风格。第二部分通过从地位变化，经济状况变化，人际关系变化等这一系列的逆境着手，分析萨拉在处理这些巨大变化的方式和表现，揭示出萨拉在遭遇逆境时所表现出的难能可贵的品格：自我信念，生存智慧和善待他人，并对这三方面的品格进行举例分析。第三部分对萨拉在面对逆境挫折时所表现出来的品格进行总结，并得出概括性结论。
