Abstract:Louisa May Alcott was one of the most famous American female writers in the 19th century. Her masterpiece is Little Women. As a semi-autobiographical novel of family ethics , Little Women mainly described the daily trivial matters among the four daughters of an ordinary family in New England during the Civil War. While praising the beauty of human nature and the spirit of self-improvement and self-reliance, the novel also put much emphasis on Mrs. March’s family education. In this thesis, the author first analyzes how Mrs. March conducted family education by giving examples. Then, the paper discusses the influence of Mrs. March’s family education on four daughters’ characters. At last, through a successful case, the paper talks about the social significance of family education, and comes to the conclusion that the influence of family education on characters is of great importance.
