Abstract: This paper aims to show the significance of task-based language teaching (TBLT) in English listening course for senior middle schools. It first summarizes the status quo of English listening course in China’s senior middle schools, reveals the problems and difficulties existing in this area, and introduces the basic concepts and corresponding theoretical background of TBLT. By drawing a comparison between the application of TBLT and the traditional listening teaching, the paper then elaborates the advantages of TBLT in English listening course, and therefore claims that TBLT has its effectiveness in improving the teaching quality of English listening comprehension in senior middle schools in China. Based on the above discussion, some feasible suggestions are offered in this paper for senior high school foreign language teaching in China.
