Abstract: Churchill is said to be the most successful speaker since Roman times in western history. In 1953, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. His speeches are straightforward, natural, clear and fluent. This paper makes a stylistic analysis on Winston Churchill’s two famous speeches from the perspective of phonology, lexis and syntax. Theories concerning style and public speech are also fully explored. The intention is to throw some light on the art of public speaking by way of appreciating classic speeches.

摘要:丘吉尔被誉为自从古罗马时代以来西方历史上最激动人心的演说家,他因演说的非凡成就而获得了1953年诺贝尔文学奖。他的演说辞具有直率、自然、明朗和流畅的特点。本论文对丘吉尔的两篇著名演讲稿,从语音、词汇、句法等各个层面进行了文体分析,并对相关的文体理论和公共演讲理论进行了探讨,旨在通过欣赏经典演讲来学习英语公共演讲的艺术。
