ABSTRACT:Little Women is American woman writer Louisa May Alcott's representative work. This novel is set in the nineteenth century during the American Civil War. Alcott uses simple language and vivid description to depict March sisters’ life stories. It also encourages women to find a better life for themselves and to become strong women. This paper tries to analyze Jo’s character and life experience from feminist ideal, and evaluate Jo’s fate. It will include Jo’s marriage, career and her pursuit of equal social status. Jo is the role who mostly reflects feminist ideal; however, she doesn’t become a completely independent woman writer at last. She adjusts herself and eventually become a “new woman” who lives between tradition and independence.
