ABSTRACT:English writing, as the way to comprehensively measure English proficiency, plays a decisive role in English learning process. Chinese is the mother tongue of Chinese students who study English as a foreign language. The influence of mother tongue makes the writing results unsatisfactory while students write in English. Concentrating on the students’ writing process, a large quantity of researches have been done by scholars. However, the researches on the writing teaching process are relatively insufficient. Based on the mother tongue transfer theory, discussions are made about the roles and functions of mother tongue during teaching process to make its negative and positive transfer clear through the study of its influence on process approach and product approach. The findings can lead teachers to study the mother tongue using strategies and to decide the scope and method of using mother tongue under the consideration of students’ English proficiency differences. And then teachers can help students overcome negative transfer and strengthen the positive effects and finally improve their English writing competence.

摘要:写作在英语学习中占有举足轻重的地位,是对英语能力的综合测评。对于母语是汉语的中国学生来说,在英语写作过程中饱受汉语的影响,使写作的成果常常不尽人意。很多学者已经从学生的写作入手对母语的影响进行了大量的研究,但是关于母语在写作教学过程中的影响的研究却很少涉足。本文从母语迁移理论出发,通过对母语在写作教学过程教学法和成果教学法中的影响研究,讨论了母语在教学过程中的角色和作用,旨在明确母语的积极和消极影响。本文的结论可以引发教师对母语使用的策略研究,以及根据学生不同的英语水平决定母语使用的范围和方法,从而帮助学生在英语写作学习中,克服母语的消极影响,强化其积极作用,有效提高学生的英语写作水平。
