Abstract：The usages of “and” can be commonly found both in learning process and in daily communications. Though it seems not very special, it suggests varieties of logical relations according to the elements it connects and different contexts, which has diversified usages and can be translated in lots of ways. It may not be easy to know exactly what it means and translate it well, so this dissertation is meant to make a systematic and comprehensive research. In this writing, the author mainly gives a summary of the usages and relative translations of “and” when it connects words, phrases and clauses respectively and it enables learners to appreciate the changefulness of “and” and translate it in a flexible and correct way. Here the author discusses what position “and” should be in, what kind of logical relation it indicates and how to make the best translation based on that relation. Through the summary and conclusion, we can see various usages and ways of translations of “and”, and get to know its applications in both oral and written English further, thus to use “and” more exactly in future.

中文摘要：“And” 的使用无论在英语学习中或者是日常口语中都非常频繁。它看似普通，但连接的成分在不同的语境中可表示各种各样的关系，且有着多种作用，表示多种含义。因此，要准确理解好其含义并翻译好并非易事，这也是本选题的意义之所在。本文作者主要归纳总结了“and”在连接单词，短语及从句时可表示的不同用法，以及在此用法中的各种翻译，让人们体会到“and”用法的丰富多彩及其中文翻译的灵活多变。全文中，作者具体列出了“and”在连接单词、短语及句子时必须位于哪个位置，连接的成分相互之间有何逻辑关系，以及基于此逻辑关系应如何翻译才能准确表达其意义等。通过归纳总结，我们可以看到“and”的用法与翻译如此多样，对“and” 在书面语或者口语中的应用有了更全面的了解, 从而有助于今后更加充分且准确地使用“and”。
