ABSTRACT:Robert Louis Stevenson is one of the greatest authors in the 19th century. He wrote many books among which The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is the most famous one. It reveals Jekyll’s two personalities. Based on Freudian Theory of Human Psyche, this paper analyzes the dual personalities of Jekyll from his behaviors and his inner struggles. This paper tries to figure out the profound meaning of the kind and the evil in human being’s personalities with the Theory of Human Psyche applied in the analyses of Jekyll’s personalities. It proves that there it is rational to judge that a person is good or evil. Through the analyses of the behavior motivations of Jekyll, together with his inner struggles, this paper aims to make its readers get a comprehensive understanding about Dr. Jekyll’s dual personalities.

中文摘要:史蒂文森是十九世纪美国最著名的作家之一,《化身博士》是他所有作品中最杰出的一部。它揭示了杰基尔身上存在善恶两面的特征。本文以弗洛伊德的人格理论为基础,从杰基尔的行为动机和他内心的挣扎两方面深入的分析了他的双重人格和形象特点。结合人格理论分析杰基尔的双重人格,本文试图阐述人性中善和恶的深层含义。表明人并不是非善即恶的,而是善恶并存的,通过分析杰基尔的行为动机及其内心斗争,本文旨在让读者对杰基尔医生的双重人格有全面的了解。
