Abstract: With the continuous development of national cultural exchange, foreign films, an important kind of media for culture, are being favored by large Chinese audience. The translation of movies is a direct and simple way of introducing foreign cultures. And the translation of a title, the “eye” or soul of a film, is worthy of our notice. This thesis points out that the successful translation of movie titles is largely determined by whether the translator can take various factors into account and make correct choice between these two strategies, namely assimilation and alienation. It mainly discusses, with abundant examples, assimilation and alienation in translation of English movie titles in terms of language, cultural differences and audience reception.

摘要:随着国际间文化交流的不断发展,外国电影作为一种重要的文化传媒,正日益受到中国观众的青睐。电影的翻译是介绍异域文化的一种简洁直观的手段,而作为电影的灵魂或核心,片名的翻译又是影片翻译中的重中之重。电影片名翻译的成功与否,很大程度上取决于译者能否根据电影的内容、文化背景和观众因素等选择正确的翻译策略。本文通过丰富的译例,着重从语言、文化差异及观众反应等角度阐释英语电影片名翻译中的归化与异化问题。
