Abstract: This paper, through identifying the problems that the Lesters, an American middle class family, encountered in their everyday life, identifies the problems of most American families, concludes that the life of the American middle class is not as pleasant as it is conceived by outsiders, and explores the deep reasons of such life.

摘要:在72届奥斯卡颁奖礼上获得包括最佳影片在内的多项大奖的美国电影《美国美人》着力描述了一个美国家庭—莱斯特一家的生活。美国社会的绝大多数人口属于中产阶级，而莱斯特一家则是颇为典型的美国中产阶级家庭。莱斯特一家的几个家庭成员在日常生活中所遇到的问题和烦恼也是很多其他美国中产阶级家庭所不可避免的。很显然他们的生活并不是外人眼中的永远的阳光和鲜花，而要找到出现这种情况的原因，我们必须考虑美国中产阶级的发展及历史进程对这些家庭所产生的影响。
