Abstract:Thomas Hardy is a great writer of critical realism in British history. Under the Greenwood Tree is his first work of series of Wessex novels. The thesis trys to interpret the embodiment of Thomas Hardy’s ecofeminist consciousness in Under the Greenwood Tree in three aspects which are the symbol of nature, the harmony of female, male and nature and the resistance of heroine to patriachal society. By understanding the social background of Thomas Hardy, his family background and personal character, it also explores the origins of Thomas Hardy’s ecofeminist consciousness.
