Abstract

 

With more and more people learning Chinese nowadays, how to learn it well and efficiently has become a hot issue. In this regard, Chinese characters draw every learner’s eyes and Chinese character radicals play an important role in learning Chinese characters. This paper analyzes the functions of Chinese character radicals, and then a detailed study is carried out. Chinese character radicals can produce impacts on Chinese characters as English affixes do on English words, to some degree, from the aspects of pronunciation, form and meaning. It can be found that Chinese character radicals have great impacts on meanings of characters but little on their pronunciations and forms. As a result, some tips on how to make full use of the rules found in this paper to learn Chinese characters well are given at the end of the paper. It focuses on radicals in Chinese free or semi-free monosyllabic morphemes. Chinese character radicals are important for learning the Chinese language. Through this study, it can facilitate learners to learn Chinese more easily and efficiently,especially those foreign learners.
