Abstract
In recent years, with the development and popularity of computers, multimedia technology has been widely used in middle school English classroom as a new teaching mean. At the same time, English plays a more and important role in our life. The new curriculum also puts forwards higher requirements for English teaching. Realizing how to correctly and effectively use multimedia technology becomes a crucial issue for English teachers. This paper reviews former researches on multimedia English teaching and mainly illustrates the application of multimedia technology in English teaching.
The author also did experiments in two classes in grade 8 in Xixi Middle School. The author adopted two different teaching methods which were applied to the students of the experiment class and the controlled class: the experimental class adopted multimedia technology in English teaching, and the controlled class adopted traditional English teaching. The research compared the listening, vocabulary, reading and comprehensive grades in three tests, the first test in September, the second test in October and the last test in November. Based on the research, the author hopes to give some possible suggestions about multimedia English teaching and traditional English teaching.
