Abstract
"Tess of the D'Urbervilles" is a classic novel; it is written by Thomas Hardy in British. The main character Tess is a beautiful, honest, responsible and self-sacrifice and courage of the outstanding girl, but she encountered hardships during her lives. This novel focuses on the tragic fate of virginity. Through description of the social environment in the novel and then proceed to the family factors, traditional character and ethical reasons, thereby exposing the Tess’s tragic fate is due to the society. Therefore, this article further analyzes the reasons for the tragedy of the family tragedy, traditional moral tragedy and tragic personality.
