Abstract
As what is known to all, Ernest Hemingway is the representative of the lost generation. Many scholars have attached their focus on the studies of the lost generation. However, most of the studies are carried based on the analysis of the book named as The Sun Also Rises. In contrast, limited scholars have paid their attention over the spirit the lost generation pursues in the book The Old Man and the Sea. The author is going to adopt the literature researching method and carries his study over this topic via the analysis over The Old Man and the Sea and Santiago, who is the hero of the book, aiming to help the readers to build up deeper understandings about both the novel and the lost generation.
