Abstract
After the World War I, Fitzgerald coined the significant phrase, "the Jazz Age" to describe an age, which it was an age of miracles, it was an age of art, an age of excess, and it was an age of satire. The tragedy of the heroines Daisy was an epitome of that age. In essence, Daisy was a victim of the patriarchy society, a representative of wealth, and also a symbol of Gatsby’s American Dream and his success. All the personal and social factors were doomed to the tragedy of Daisy in the Jazz Age. Besides, Daisy was a mirror of a kind of tragic women in that society. This dissertation is to analysis the cause of tragic heroine from microcosmic view to macroscopic view. The dissertation is organized in 3 parts. The first part is to analysis the internal causes of Daisy’s tragedy; the second part is to analysis the external causes of Daisy’s tragedy, and the third part is the conclusion of her tragedy.
